oh harsh tokes my friend if you cant tell the differrence between your vangelis and your IDM- I think IDM is one of those broad terms applied to a number of different styles of music kinda like the blanket term"TECHNO" and then there are all kinds of subterms like jungle, d'n b, etc... defining different rythmic variations or styles.the interesting and great thing about the new electronic stuff is that it's unable to be pigionholed into catagories, because there is so much variety and unique sounds out there. I usually tell people i listen to strange electronic stuff or uh like wierd um well listen to this... but chances are if you are describing the music you listen to as " electronic ambient flute music with whale sounds, gregorian chant samples and native american chants" you are listening to new age music.
