I exchanged e-mail with Rich last week. The Lipswitch record is to
be released jointly by Warp and Schematic on January 16th, 2001. As
record store folks already know, it's on the faxes for pre-orders now.
A pre-release CDR of Lipswitch has been on Napster for a while, but
Rich says he's added 4 additional tracks to the record, so it will
be more than 38 minutes.
I can't recommend Rich's work enough. As a producer I stand absolutely
in awe at how carefully he works, coming up with overwhelming maximal
sound assaults that are still somehow funky and affecting. I do know
that he has assembled a home studio that may be the most comprehensive
collection of cutting edge noisemakers on the planet.
And even knowing what he's working with I still experience those gob-smacked
"how the fuck did he do that?" moments.
And as someone who's been around the scene for as long as I have, it's
gratifying to see people like Rich, Stewart Walker, Morgan Geist, and others
starting to get some major recognition. Those of you just starting out
need to know that 6 years ago they were all just knuckleheads like you
and me ...
