biologically speaking she was a man but mentally she was a woman. she had
been using the name wendy and dressing like a woman for many years but the
record label that released Switched On Bach refused to do so unless she
used her given birth name and male persona, out of fear that the record
buying public would not be able to cope with a trans-gendered electronic
musician. so basically both the below posts are correct, it just depends
on your perspective.
