it seems like the curse of trance is that some of it is the most mainstream electronic dance music out there, and, as such, constitutes a sort of crappy pop-disco. pop-song chord changes, exhausted synth sounds, dumbass 'soaring' melodies and bombastic drum rolls... but obviously it's not all like that. (and there's certainly enough four on the floor techno driven by hammering sixteen-note synth lines that one could be forgiven for believing the two genres were somehow related.) milling around the record store I've been checking out some psychedelic trance singles and thought that some of it sounded great in a tripped-out electro kinda way, seemingly shorn of many of the problems I have with trance. anyone know about this stuff and think that any of it meets the impeccably high standards of IDM? kurt --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
