<<Stuff I tried and wasn't crazy about: Squarepusher: Big Loada (most of the tracks didn't seem to go anwhere...)>> First a personal note: I'm nuts about Big Loada, or at least the first half of the album. Out of all the albums you've listed (excepting a couple I haven't heard) it's probably my favorite. Yup, even counting BoC. Unlike a lot of the more frenetic IDM, Big Loada is a very accessible album and that's important to me. I've got all sorts of "heady" IDM (a couple Schematic releases come to mind) that's technically superb but just doesn't make the cut in the rocking-out department. I have to say the second track on Big Loada--the ragga jungle rip off--is off the wall. And the first and third tracks (on the Warp version anyway) are good clean drill 'n bass that doesn't get too carried away with fuckery-for-fuckery's-sake. I'd probably agree with you that the last half of the album has a few tracks that drag on a little longer than necessary, but overall I think the album is one of my top three IDM picks. I've got the Warp release with 7 tracks, but if you've got the North American release on Nothing then you get the added bonus of maybe two EPs including the most beautiful drum 'n bass track ever, Port Rhombus. <<Two Lone Swordsmen Wagon Christ Funkstorung Mu-ziq>> I think judging from your other list those are all pretty safe bets... Funkstorung can kind of go both ways. You seem to like the more melodic and chill side of IDM and for that I'd have to say Funkstorung's "Post Art" EP is one of my favorites. But if you're not crazy about Squarepusher you might not be crazy about most of Funkstorung's releases which tend to have a lot of stop-and-start beat juggling where the songs kind of deliberately trip over themselves. People have been knocking u-ziq's "Royal Astronomy" on here but I thought the album was very interesting, again in a melodic (as opposed to technical) kind of way. I'd recommend it, although you gotta be careful with most of Paradinas's stuff. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
