Hello.
There doesn't seem to be much discussion of Mille Plateaux releases in
here. Is everyone busy checking out other labels, or maybe they're not
getting a decent distribution in the US?
Anyway, after slowly managing to get my brain around "Clicks & Cuts",
I've slowly begun exploring MP's back catalogue. Thus far I've nabbed:
Ihan - "Iota"
Alva Noto - "Prototpyes"
Vladislav Delay - "Entain"
Gas - "Zauberberg"
Gas - "Konigsforst"
Gas - "Pop"
SND - "Make SND Cassette"
Just bought those Gas albums in the past week and I'm very pleased
with them. Lots of extremely dark ambience, unnerving trance. Seems to
comprise of huge loops of obscure classical music shoved through the
wrangler, detuned and layered with doom-laden pulses, thumps and
slow-motion rhythmic movements. Beautiful stuff. Once associated with
the music, the name "Gas" itself conjurs up its more sinister
connotations, whilst the artwork consists of close-up photos of
forests/nature, albeit with a dark red/yellow filters. Everything
compliments each other nicely.
Time to explore some more Mille Plateaux. Anyone got any
recommendations from recent releases that aren't currently represented
by MP3 clips on their web site? I'm more interested in the
Gas/Vladislav Delay/SND style of dark loops and sinister
ambient/trance rather than the malfunctioning electrical devices of
Ihan and Alva Noto.
