I said "*really* taken off," and I stand behind that statement. "License to Ill" was the first rap record to reach number one and "Doggystyle" was the first to open at number one. I would pretty much say that the Beastie Boys and Snoop both have the "rockstar" thing down pretty well, so I think my "rockstar" theory is pretty true. Much like IDM has had myriad underground labels making great music and a very nice, tightknit scene, it still hasn't really "broken." The *only* IDM artist of whom most people have heard is Aphex Twin. It takes somebody with a pretty large interest in electronic music before they even begin to recognize relatively big names like Autechre or Squarepusher. -- :: atomly :: atomly@atomly.com | atomly@atdot.org | atomly@curiousnetworks.com http://www.atomly.com | http://www.mp3.com/atomly --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
