After some not-so-gentle prodding by a good friend, I listened to the
forthcoming Kid 606 album on Mille Plateaux (due in late October) last
night...and this may very well be up your alley. Michael is heading down that
same road still, but the surface level of his music on this album ("PS I Love
You") is much more subdued--think of the quieter moments on his Carpark EP
edged up a notch with significant attention to drawing all the stereo effects
he's so wakko about in a more coherent (and palatable) direction.
Please, no one take this as a direct comparison: I'd say that to my ear, Kid
is making like Autechre in that he's pushing his unique sound into
simultaneously more complex and engaging ground. No, PS I Love You sounds
NOTHING at all like Ae--I'm refering to their respective creative
trajectories.
