i can almost promise you some of autechre's stuff is fractal or
fractally-derived (using a part of a fractal melody or whatever) but i doubt
it's as much as it seems. as an example: "left blank" on ep7 has
melody/bleep-bloops that seem to not repeat and have fractal characteristics.
"pule" on chiastic slide is another example of something that sounds
fractal (though personally i don't think that melody is, since i can almost
pick it out on my guitar, and it just seems to be basic chords.)
however they make their music, i can promise you ep7 was not completely, or
even mostly, fractally created. listen to the melodies in "pir" and the
intricate drum programming in "liccflii" and you'll realize it's just REALLY
fucking complex.
as for purely fractal songs that someone mentioned, i do have a song that 95%
of was created in fractal progs. and in my opinion it kicks ass, because
it throws you for a loop. lack of the usual 4/4 and repeating melodies
and all. and its not any slow ambient shit either....its fast drums and
noises and all. if anyone wants to hear it i'll gladly make a copy
available somehow :)
