I must recomend www.allmusic.com, there is quite good info on rare and
obscure.

the search eninge at www.mtv.co.uk actually yeilds some good results, i've
not tried anything too obscure, but if you are look for indepth artist
histories this is a nice place to start. i've only really tried it on warp
artists, i think i tried speedranch and vvm to no success...
