8/11/00 I think that Chuck and the kids would definately consider their music "dance music". I mean not in the teenybopper sense, but in the booty shaking clyde stubblefield sense. Perhaps we are debating the wrong point. If PE's work is not considered "dance music" haw can Squarepusher's. Under the definition of "dance music" describing music that induces "mindless, body swaying" how can a music be both intelligent music and dance music? To me, the music of PE, Squarepusher, The Boards of Canada, Curtis Mayfield all balance the cerebral and the temporal. You got yer cognitive elements (wicked programming/lyrical content/etc.), you got yer physical elements (head noddin'/booty shaking/etc.). That is the whole appeal of the IDM to a simpleton like myself. The balance.
