review:
STYROFOAM "The Point_Misser" (Morr Music)
The small German label Morr Music just gets better with each new
release. Styrofoam, apparently a guy from Belgium (also known as Tin
Foil Star), impresses with a very well crafted disc. Musical
references are the usual suspects: Autechre, Boards of Canada, Black
Dog/Plaid... but Styrofoam has got ideas of his own, too. And
definitely funnier song titles (Off Is Not a Speed). The Point_Misser
is a relatively calm album, with several tunes where the crunchy
beats have a submissive role. With its small melodies and instances
of distorted song the album has a very warm feeling in the middle of
all the digital. One of this years best albums. Very nice cover by
Jan Kruse, too.
