Those of you in the area (or visiting) should check out the Audium, if you
haven't yet. Worth the entry fee (8 or 10, I can't remember).
It's a sound installation composed of a circular room containing 169
speakers. It's a 60-minute show (cut in half by a 5 minute intermission) of
distorted tape playback. Pitch-black and not-so-uncomfortable chairs. The
sounds are a bit dated at times and he didn't play with melody or rhythm as
much as I would have liked, but it's still cool to experience. It's a guy in
the back of the room (the back of a circular room?) in some well-fashioned
cockpit, twiddling knobs over tape-playback. It's all about the motion of
the sound and he does a cool job with this. It's an interesting hour that'll
leave you grasping for the KLF when you're home.
Even the bathrooms are primed for sound...and I'm still curious how much of
this is intentional...
