I think one of the things that becomes readily apparent out of this
discussion is that you should acquire a particular instrument because you
want the *sound* it makes (and you should know that beforehand). Each device
has its own "personality," and it's important to know *why* you're buying
what you're buying, not just going for something because everyone else is,
or because it's "cool."
The important thing is to have fun with your equipment anyway, so whatever
it takes to accomplish that, do it.
