I love this record. Part of the reason it hasn't gotten the attention
it deserves is that he partakes of some of the same stupid computer
tricks* that all the other boys -- aphex twin, rich devine, funkstorung,
etc have been caning. There seems to be such a premium on coming up
with new sounds that listeners get easily jaded. "Oh he just did granular
sythestis on a drum loop and slowed it down to 2 bpm. *yawn*"
Like anything else, if you care about the music instead of just tricky
sound design, you have to like the V.L.A.D. For mixing it can be
really subversive -- it has that 80s electro beat going for it, which
I find really effective when laid over stuff from that period, like
Human League.
By the way isn't 'Human League' one of the coolest names ever?
