Ah piss off -- I turn 43 in July and bought my first techno records 10 years ago, and first warp records soon after that ... As far as the IDM Kids/Chaos thing. More power to them, but it's hard enough to put together the skills to be a craftsmanlike musician much less an artist. Believe you me. On the other hand, kids have more time on their hands than adults, and a bunch of free or bootlegged software and a $600 computer is all you need to get started. Unfortunately the stuff that's easy to use forces you down some pretty deep ruts unless you're crafty enough to misuse them, and the really powerful stuff takes more than one stoned evening to figure out. Anyway y'all kids knock yerselves out. First step -- spend an evening listening to as much stuff as you can stand on mp3.com, and then don't do anything that sounds like that. If you want a perfect counterexample, listen to the 'torley wong techno kid' tracks. Or better yet, download the cheesiest track you can find and deconstruct it until it's unrecognizable. Playing them backwards through a big muff pedal usually improves most of that kack. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
