The warp release (wap88) is titled simply "keynell/keynell" on the spine, but explicitely states on the cover "conceived & secreted by gescom, additional nurturing & care from autechre". Since the original skam release confirms this, by crediting gescom alone, i would say that wap88 is, in fact, remixes of the original key nell by gescom. I agree that wap88 is some of their best work. it's funny (and confusing) how they did it, with all 4 tracks having the same name (sort of... side A has 2 tracks and is called "key nell 1/2" and B also having 2 tracks is "key nell 3/4"). add to this the fact that alot of people are under the impression that gescom is the same as autechre, and then the additional ae remix on skam (ska010this). all versions, including the one on warp, have the diced vocal samples (but ae uses those elsewhere too), but otherwise it's hard to see that they're "the same tracks". Then again, many ae remixes bear little resemblance to the original. additionally, any "keynell" remix could be a remix of any one of the 4 tracks on the original release. This probably means nothing, but also note that the original is spelled "key nell" (2 words), while all of the remixes are spelled "keynell". jon Date: Fri, 9 Jun 2000 13:13:01 +0400 To: <idm@Hyperreal.Org> From: "Nick Zavriev" <ambi@mu.ru> Subject: Re: [idm] 'keynell', remixed by autechre? No. Key nell remixes on warp have nothing to do with key nell 1-4 on Skam, these are two totally new tracks. It's a fabulous record, maybe ae's best work ever, a perfect example of 'melodic-but-not-cheesy idm'. I wish warp would once rerelease this on CD...
