Me and buddy Jeremy head out on the 4, heading east, get to Melrose, stop in for some shopping. Picked up the new Le Shok LP (A+ flailing twangy punk), some merzbow 7", the solvent/lowfish split (i think this was released awhile ago, great soft-ish electro melodic stuff, i love it) and surgeon's force and form (fuck yeah). Now it's off to the Smell, LA's hipster hang-out, dangerous noise venue. On the bill is Black Dice and !!!. Black Dice is this insane guitar noise band with fierce, at-points-tribal drumming and screaming skater kid with headset on, they're from NYC. they rocked hard, their 10" is great too. next up was !!!, which was just amazing. think instrument house??? i dunno, but it was the most danceable shit ever complete with sort of screamy vocals, trumpets, a rythm barrage and unbelievably got almost every fucking post-rock skinny wanker in the place off their elbow-crossed haunches dancing and flailing about! Truly their name fits them, !!! is an amaz!
ing band, they have releases out on bottlenekk i think, definitely something worth checking out, i was amazed. plus they knew about detroit tech and were totally down discussing it with me, what cool dudes.
Then we rode back on the bus, total transexual siting=3, total people trying to sell us "bud"=1, total black metal kids repulsed by stinking homeless man on bus=1, total fun level=7 (out of 7.5)!!

p.s for the LA people, aron's records is stocking some pretty good shit, they had zhark, hex, no-tek and DHR stuff.
