(hopefully someone out there finds these intersting or helpful, I know reviews about specific releases help me choose new sounds and artists) Yunx vs. Datathief - split EP Datathief side - lots of reverbed out, large sounding distorto-IDM bizness going on. Usually a nice melody to nod the track on with some hard crunchy beats. Kind of reminds me if Squarepusher never knew what a bass was. Yunx side - lots of layers of rhythm, but overall, just noodly IDM (disclaimer: I got this 12" for the yunx side b/c I was so blown away with the duckie bird/isophlux release...oh well) iYunx - Duckie bird EP So this 12" is just incredible. Carefully crafted melancholic melodic IDM filled with interesting jittery beats. What's nice is that the music has a very 'human' pace and doesn't seem quite so synthetic, even though it really is. Something about this makes me think if you like Plaid's less organic moments, you'd really like this. Hermann & Klein - Transalpin EP I had no idea what I was getting into with this release to be honest. But, I'll make up a category to place the two long works in: noisy droniness with hard beats. The 12" is filled with all those pops and clicks that are quite the rage these days. But, this music is great. Minimal in design, but engrossing. If you're not big on extended experiments in texture, skip this. -Gil --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
