<< Isan is excellent stuff. I have a bunch of releases
from them and they are all excellent but my favorites
is their Beautronics cd on the Tugboat label followed
by the new Salamander cd. Here are the Isan release
i can remember offhand...
. Isan: damil 85/cubillo 7" (Wurlitzer Jukebox)
. Isan: titled not tithed 7" (Bad Jazz)
. Isan/tin Foil Star split 10" (Atomic)
. Isan: betty's lament 7" (Bad Jazz)
. Isan: beautronics cd (Tugboat)
. Isan: parochi 7" (Static Caravan)
. Isan: digitalis LP (Liquefaction Empire)
. Isan: dampen 7" (Elefant)
. Isan: salamander cd/lp (Morr Music)
There is also a split 7" flexi and all the comp appearances
Lance mentioned (just check their website), and also
Digitalis is coming out on CD on Darla next year, so you
can have the horizontal, not vertical format (hooray!)
I want to echo what Lance said about "Beautronics": that
record just blew me away (couldn't play anything else for
a day or two), and "Digitalis" is excellent as well, but
"Salamander" didn't have the same impact at all. I don't
think it's that Isan doesn't sound as fresh as they did for
the first two albums, I think it's that the new album is lacking
something. Out of their 7"s they mostly seem to have one
good track and one not as good track. Split 10" is hit and miss
as well. But Isan are on to something.
BTW, if you like Isan, check out B. Fleischmann's "Poploops
For Breakfast", which is absolutely stellar and is also available
on CD. Kind of like a friendlier, warmer Pole.
