While i agree with most of what Cap'n Duke said of Marley
and trying to remix him, i must also add that Laswell's
"Ambient Mix Translations" in dub are well worth a listen, and
should be seperated in your minds from any of this
loopy-house-Marley foolishness. Yeah yeah there's so much talk of
heretical reworking of classic music such as this, but the
reworkings on "Dreams of Freedom" aren't bad. They aren't so much
"remixes" as they are instrumental versions of some of the songs
(even though several still have voices in them). It's a different
perspective on the music. Also the recordings sound a bit cleaned
up. Surely Laswell's "Panthalassa" (Music of Miles Davis) is also
worth a hear and that one is more 'true-to-the-originals' then the
Marley disc. Both discs feature quality low-frequency vibrations
from Bassmaster Bill.
