Sex and drugs and Decks and EFX & 909 ... Plastikman/Richie Hawtin's latest release actually made it to South Africa, and with trembling hands I pushed PLAY to start the ball rolling on this one hour 38-track adventure. I am disappointed in a big way. The 909 in question is very evident right the way through - most tracks are between 1 and 2 minutes long and segue seamlessly into each other - there's nothing that really develops into any sort of "track" as such; it all just bangs relentlessly on its journey. Standouts for me are the audible fractions of Quadrant and Heiko Laux, both of whom I'd like to hear more about and of. Oh, where is the Plastikman of Consumed???
