Bubba,
First let me say welcome to the list. If you have been looking long and
hard for people with intelligence and things to say about idm, then I can
assure you that it does sometimes happen on this list, if only a couple
of times per week in between the combat and negativity.

Well, you can expect lots of people working out their hatred for each
other for all to read, with heavy doses of petty infighting, name
calling, bickering and general moodyness sprinkled with smug
name-dropping. If you stick around long enough, you may even get front
row seat on a witch-hunt, but even if you cant take it anymore and decide
to unsub straight away, Im certain youll still get to witness various
trainspotters belittle each other over all manner of minutia.
Oh yeah, almost forgot! Every now and then sometimes people post reviews
of music they like, and you can get the latest scoop on exciting new
labels, new output from more established labels, webcast announcements of
cool radio stations playing IDM, and updates on artist's live
performances around the world. If you can dodge the flying bricks we
toss at each other, you can catch people selling and trading all kinds of
music and maybe obtain rarities youd never find within a thousand mile
radius of where you might physically live, and pass on (or trade) music
you dont listen to for more than the $3 dollars the pawn shop may give.
Just remember- if someone calls you a name, call them 2 or 3 names, and
if they slam you privately, then by all means copy the message to the
whole list so that your carefully crafted retort can be enjoyed by the
900+ people on this list who wanna hear what clever zinger youll toss at
your opponent next!
Take inventory: Youll need a thick hide, a solid sense of humor, and an
endless supply of cash to buy all the new stuff you would have never
heard of before you subbed here. IDM is that bittersweet mailing list
youll be dying to get off of, in between the times it connects you to
that sublime 12" or CD that makes the whole year worth living.
Your mileage may vary,
ernie
