if yer talking about kid606's nwa 'straight outta compton'/tigerboy remix
single, here's my take.
much like pete townsend's 'secondhand love' on 'white city', nwa's 's.o.c.'
was a real, angry, in-your-face statement about 80s race relations that you
have to play loud to obtain full enjoyment.
despite the vinyl's design (white on the outside, black on the inside...
get it?) i just don't feel the same adrenalin or mental rush listening to
this remix. it sounds like a dsp'ed mash of samples, stopping and
restarting -- there is no semblance of flow or the appearance of a whole
track here; no point or direction, just experimental noodling.
imho, it seems like depedro totally sucked the life out of the original. if
it is intended a take on imitation and theft of black culture, well, it
works. otherwise, perhaps it is better to give your money towards something
more original, such as schematic's 'lily of the valley'.
back to you,
alex
