A Man Called Adam - Stay With Me (Tom Middleton Mix) (Other Records)
A return to form from the Balearic partnership AMCA. The remix
business is done here by none other than flavour of the month, Tom
Middleton, providing a vocal and a dub mix. The vocal side of Stay
With Me, is a deep house package suggesting warm summer evenings
and expensive cocktails. Almost perfect in the production stakes, it
only fails for me in being a little too polished. The dub is slightly
more downtempo and a tad too hypnotic for my liking. One for
committed house-heads, others my find both tracks unadventurous. 7/10
Scott 4/Jeans - Jeans Record (Choke Bore Mix) (Folk Archive V2)
Limited one side release from those indie / country groovers Scott 4,
this is their take on the burgeoning nu-electro scene. Although,
certainly a long distance from their previous material, this doesn't
really succeed in the dancefloor stakes. It is a slow, even at plus 8,
retro sounding electronic record, with space age vocals and not much
else really, which is a shame as I was really looking forward to
hearing it. Much better and recommended is Scott 4's regular output,
including a new album in the pipline. 5/10
Max Brennan - Let's Go There Together (Sublime 034)
Quite an odd slice of house funk from Max B , on the first listen it
feels very dated. However a few more tries and it is better - heavy
with the retro feel and added vocoder action result in a smooth groove
monster of a thing. Probably worth checking before purchase, but if
you know the Brennan sound, this and the flip Big Organ will float
your boat. 7/10
CiM - Service Pack (Delsin)
An excellent EP on the Dutch label Delsin. This is good value, even at
import prices, as it represents a mini-album of sorts with 8 cuts in
total, from this London producer. The overall feel is one of variety,
as the tracks move from ambient downtemponess to nu-electro to some
sharp crispy Detroit flavours. No one track stands out really, and as
such is an indication of the quality of this release, a must have for
fans of CiM's previous outputs on the Headspace label. Recommended.
