absolutely. i was just asking my wife why she disdains most of the electronic music i listen to...her reply was that it "wasn't sexy". she's not a ricky martin kinda chick, so i asked her to explain. she said that she feels that electronic music is not "where music is heading" (like i claim), primarily because it lacks romance. people need to feel the poetry and cheesy shite in music sometimes, not to mention the entertainment factor. like soma said, there isn't a total lack of 'angst/sadness/joy' in IDM; listen to the Plone remix of tricky disco or console's delaydackel if you think otherwise...it is there, it just isn't as obvious as a belle and sebastian track. i think that the reason that i still listen to cat power and the smiths from time to time is that they provide an emotional parallel to and escape from the logic that is most IDM. i still feel that a 90/10 ratio of electronic to pop isn't exactly my ideal, but that's how i've had it as of late. someone asked the list how everyone "got into IDM". what did you listen to before this? for me, seefeel was the bridge from indie/guitar to electronic. polyfusia still has a lot of the "feel" ofstuff that i used to listen to (mbv, slowdive, cocteau twins and all that). the odd thing is, i feel like i'm musically polarized now: i can either listen to robot-music (ross!) or wussrock, but nothing in between. if anyone else knows what i'm ranting about and/or can articulate it more effectively, i'd like to hear your take.. regards, seesik --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
