More of the same similar sounds, but done better. The tracks are "built"
rather than simply thrown together, which is the best way to describe the
BBC 12"s. Where those compilation tracks rarely became more than the sum
of their parts, the Hamijama gels. The standout track "Skellar Vellum"
has the sublime Freeform qualities in it - funky and disjointed and that
slight otherworldly feel. The best reference point I can think of is
Freeform's 1st album on Worm Interface. Square, but organic with
insistent percussion and dainty, floating melodies (if that makes any
sense). I found the the Hamijama track on the 1st BBC 12" to sound
almost Black Dog-like, and this new 12" is a fine progression (as long as
you turn the subwoofer off - it drowns out just about everything else -
next time maybe they'll do a better job mastering). Hope this helps.
