<anyone heard matmos' "the west" 12"? any good?> Matmos - The West LP (Deluxe/Vague Terrain dlx 212/vague 2, 1998) This a full-length vinyl record (22' per side or so) - their third full-length release. I think it's my favorite of the three but it is more "post-rock" and less strictly electronic, if that's a problem for you. By this I mean with 4-8 musicians per track, it sounds more like music played by a group than electronic music composed to tape. Also there is lots of guitar, not of the wanky variety, much of it by guest Dave Pajo (Slint/Tortoise/etc.) and live drums, some by Chris Guttmacher (Boston to SF transplant, ex-Cul de Sac et al.). It terms of rock-electronic mergers you could think of Can without trying too hard, but it's not a complete departure from the sound of their first two CDs. Bob
