It can only be done on certain lathes - from what I hear only the Scully
(sp?) lathe can cut in both directions (although I guess other lathes
could be modified?). Ron Hardy at NSC (Detroit) is a famous (ab)user of
the Scully - I think D&M Berlin possibly have one as well and there are
other cutting rooms around that use it.
You can create lock grooves on other lathes but only in the run-off at
the end of a side and therefore it would be pretty impossible to cut a
133.33BPM rhythm properly on this - you can only loop the end of tracks
(I have some old Blast First and Mercury Rev records that do this).
There are some Relief records that attempt to lock at the run-off and
most of them just fail pretty badly.
