Dear All,
DOG FARTS : Without Prejudice
=======================
This is mainly a response to Ken "black dog" Downie's MONKEY BUSINESS
message.
Yes we are releasing a compilation of old and unreleased material.
It will contain tracks by PLAID, BALIL, ATYPIC & TURA. It will obviously
not contain any "THE BLACK DOG" compositions or material
written/co-written with Ken Downie (I.A.O./Discordian Popes).
Most of this material is already available on various sites as MPfree
files. The compilation will simply provide a good quality alternative
and will be a concise collection for those that want it but dont want
to pay madly inflated prices. We have repackaged it to avoid confusion
with the originals and because it contains unreleased tracks. If you see
this as a "Rip Off" just don't buy it.
Having made up two thirds of Black Dog Productions from 1989 to 1995 we
find it hard to understand how Ken thinks he has the rights to material
he had no part in writing. Some of it was written in a communal studio
which we had built up together and which, on our departure, was mostly
kept by Ken along with the "Black Dog" name. So Ken got most of the
musical/computing equipment and the name that we had all worked hard to
develop. We walked away because it had become almost impossible to
communicate and any reasonable settlement would be costly, painful and
time consuming.
Having left what was becoming a paranoid dictatorship we had to rebuild
a studio and carry on with a name that was almost unknown. Ken is free
to do as he wills with the "Black Dog", but how he feels justified in
slagging off an independent like Warp while signing to Warner Bros is a
doggist mystery. Warp have their faults but they have helped many and
exploited few. We have released two albums with them and are working on
a third, this compilation reclaims and clarifies some of our past.
Thanks, plaid.
