some recommended new releases: Mr. Curtin's first release on his own label since 1993: Dan Curtin--Spatial Relationships EP (MET0C011) A Crazy Life B1 She Thinks She's So Smooth B2 An Up The Wall Drive I've only had a chance to give it one quick listen, but it's prime Curtin--tricky rhythms with quirky electronics wrapped in plenty of warmth. Should be out in December sometime. Same thing for the two new Metamorphics (only had a chance to give a quick spin so far): Morgan Geist--Nebula Jersey Volume One (Environ) ENV004 A1 Ventriloquism A2 How Beep Is Your Love B1 Roboho B2 Evawen *Geist excels with a variety of moods and plenty of dancefloor abstraction Daniel Wang--Mechanical Birds EP ENV005 no tracker; i don't have any song titles for this ***that unmistakable Balihu funk; sorta like an I Feel Love-era Moroder slowed down and freaked up. Groovy. Not sure when the Wang is out. Geist is out now. the latest in the limited release series: Dan Bell's Elevate Special Projects ELVSP2 out now A Subterranean B1 The Wild Life B2 Berserk A1 has a laidback bouncing kick with an occasional one-bar reversed keyline and another keyloop that appears half way before being joined by some low in the mix perc to drive the track to a finish. the B side is more energetic with a continuous background synth wash building to a combination 4 note low bass line/single synth sweep and intermittent synth washes. B2 is a busy percussion arrangement with chopped "everybody get" samples that follow their own rhythm. Bell doublepack should be out in spring; should be another ESP before 99 hits; DBX will return in 1999; look out! Kurbel newies: Kurbel follows up label owner Bartz' The Traveller with Daniel Lodig's Santora EP (Kurbel013), a gritty 6 tracker that has some Sahko/Dum style gritty 4:4 and a few dark electrofied #s as well. Traveller is out now. Santora is supposed to be out now but I haven't seen it anywhere yet. Thanks.
