As I recall, the very reason for the length of the "Blue Room" single
was to poke fun at the silliness and arbitrariness of the UK chart
rules. As time goes on, it seems the singles rules become ever
sillier and _more_ arbitrary. I recall reading that this latest move
was allegedly intended to reduce the number of dance singles on
the charts, as those are the ones most likely to featur extensive
remixes and long track lengths.
