Has anyone else mentioned the (new?) Icelandic project Mum? I got a 12" of their's a couple of weeks back and was really impressed by the combination of fragile electronics and female vocals (reminiscent of The Cranes, at least to me). I found their full album - "Yesterday Was Dramatic, Today is OK" - available for a very reasonable price at Darla mailorder (www.darla.com) so I ordered a copy and received it yesterday. Surpisingly, I found only one track with vocals - the same track that appears in several versions on the 12". But it's still a wonderful record, very pretty and clean. I can see this getting a lot of plays as the weather gets nicer, it's got that vibe to it. Apparently both releases are very limited and won't be repressed due to the band signing to Warp, so grab then while you can. I was also pleasantly surprised to recieve an envelope from Skam in the mail containing the new Bola EP. Unlike a lot of people, I sort of dug the Wevie Stonder record - a little goofiness every once in a while is OK by me. But it's nice to see a bit of the "classic" Skam sound come back. Great use of an MC on the first track as well. There's some new elements in the mix, but enough of the old Bola sound that fans shouldn't be disappointed. Finally, I see that Max Tundra has a new 7"/CDEP out this week on Tugboat. Anyone checked it out? It's been ages since his Warp single, I'm curious what he's up to.
