No, it's not minimal techno. It most reminds me of the most loop-based TRR material, eg. their 12" on Fatcat., but also somewhat of the more abstract moments of Kreidler's 'Appearance and the Park' (Schneider being a member of that band too seems to get neglected for the more trendy option). The first track does have a kick pulsing away 8 to the bar, but that reminds me more of Suicide than minimal techno. :-) Also, Mapstation is constructed from very discrete sounds. The one thing I think of with most of those German minimal techno labels mentioned is piles of reverb and delay, and a massive depth of frequencies. Again, Mapstation isn't like that. For someone who is well into computer music, I'm not sure if you wouldn't find its straight out repetition, based on analogue-like synth sounds being tweaked in typically analogue-sounding ways, all a bit passe. *shrug* Michael PS. I only got it yesterday, so all comments are based on about two listens while doing other things round the house. -+- Jet Jaguar MP3s http://mp3.com/jetjag/ -+- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
