it's an easy trick which can be done with a drum machine (at least a roland/boss one) and a computer sequencer. both autechre and aphex twin used fast rolls in earlier tracks, just not to the extent that they do now. "a dream is worth a thousand pictures, the mouths of lampreys a thousand more..."
