Well, converting an MP3 to a WAV-file will give you exactly the same "loss" as
playing the MP3... the loss with MP3 happens when you compress audio data, not
when you decompress it - given that your MP3 player's not too shabby...
And yes, WinAmp's really nice for converting from MP3 to WAV - then you can
use almost any CD writing software to etch the songs on a disc... :) (Just be
wary of those programs that insist on writing a gap between tracks...)
