OK, I'm getting a little bored here... How about a few reviews? Everyone seems to buy new CDs/12s every week, so could we have a slightly extended opinion on some of them? Yes, there have been some great reviews recently, but reviews and release info is what I've been on this list for for the past year and a half (or so)... So, I'd love to know what people thought of the new Arcon 2 album. Comparison's to Noel Ram/Leon Mar's work as Oil? General thoughts? It was given a fantastic review in the Wire mag for November. I'm still waiting for my order to come through (for some reason Modern Music are being particularly incommunicative to me, but hey I still love 'em (for now)) and in the meantime I'd love to read about it :) Thanks, Peter. np: a jungly groove I'm putting together with Sound Forge. P.S. This groove uses a drum sample from Transglobal Underground's remix album "International Times". It's used in the Youth remix of Temple Head (Burundi mix) appearing 2:41 into the track. It's also used in the Pop Will Eat Itself song "Harry Dean Stanton". In the PWEI track it's mixed in with other stuff, whilst in the TGU track it's just there, bare (that's where I sampled it from), and as the PWEI track came out earlier I presume the original sample is from somewhere else. Can anyone identify this sample for me? I will probably use it in something I will want to release at some stage, so I'll need to know. P.P.S. I'd love to hear what people think of my piece but at 14 Meg it's a bit big to put on the Web. I'd like to encode it as an mp3 but mpeg Encoder doesn't work for me. Can anyone help me there? Should I use something else?
