I heartily recommend the following labels, though most of their back catalogue is very hard to come by these days: A13, B12, GPR, New Electronica, A.R.T./Op-Art, Likemind, Otherworld and Unexplored Beats for starters, progressing to more dance-oriented releases on Ifach, Pure Plastic, 3Zone, Rewired and 4th Wave. Artists include Kirk DeGiorgio (As One/Esoterik), Steve Pickton (Stasis/Phenomyna/Paul W. Teebrooke), Ed Handley & Andy Turner (Plaid/Tura/Balil) with Dave Hill (Repeat), Mark Broom, Ian O'Brien, Nuron (now was that Steve Paton or who?), Golding/Rutter (B12/CMetric etc.)... I'd probably try to hunt down full-lenghts on CD, since the vinyl releases have been out of stock for years. Some pointers: Repeat: Repeats (A13 AA002) Phenomyna: Unexplained (A.R.T. ART5CD) As One: Reflections (New Electronica ELEC5) As One: Reflections on Reflections (New Electronica ELEC23) As One: Celestial Soul (New Electronica ELEC26) Paul W. Teebrooke: Connections (Op-Art OP6) Stasis: Inspiration (Peacefrog PF028) Stasis: From Old To The New (Peacefrog PF046) Various: Objets d'A.R.T. (New Electronica ELEC9) (only on 4x12", contains A.R.T. 1, 2.1, 2.2 and 3) Various: Objets d'A.R.T. 92::95 (New Electronica ELEC27, 2xCD only) I've been spinning most of the back catalogue from the above labels lately, and they still make me shiver. Nowadays, IDM has advanced beyond my tolerance in abstraction and I'd rather listen to these than any of the "new" music discussed on the list. If I were an MP3 trader, most of these would be available from me. But I respect the musicians and labels and _do NOT support piracy_, because that's what dealing in MP3s is. I don't use Napster or anysuch, I don't comb the net to get the impossible-to-find-on-real-media BoC tracks. I'd rather be without them than submit to the false notion of "fairness to pirate" when the records are not available anymore. I don't think that "home taping is killing music" but it's still unethical and just plain _criminal_. If it's worth listening (repeatedly), it's worth buying. -- nuutti-iivari meriläinen gordon at diversion dot org http colon slash slash www dot diversion dot org slash --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
