Just got the new Billy MacKenzie cd, 'Beyond The Sun', Billy's last work
before he left us so tragically ... apart from a few more rocky tracks
which aren't really my cup of tea, the rest is all Billy on top form ...
when Billy's voice swoops and soars, just sends shivers up your spine ...
As Paul Morley wrote in his little epitaph to Billy in the CD booklet:
'Now shut your eyes and listen to the sounds that Billy MacKenzie made,
that he found, that imagined, once he had shut his eyes and was singing his
heart and soul out for a world that was never really there for him. Shut
your eyes and see and hear and smell the magic, shifting, sunken, fragrant
worlds that Billy saw with his eyes shut and sang up to the skies. Shut
your eyes and open your mind. Billy's eyes are shut forever. And he's
always singing.'
Respect,
Aless
and Billy's "No" is still one of my alltime fave ever songs, with some of
the most beautiful lyrics I've ever heard, twill tear your heart out, "Tear
a strip from her dress, wrap my arms in it ..."
