you *could* start by not putting everybody's back up with asinine comments, jon. ...what gonzi said is pretty much near the truth. bj*rk gets the urge to use a string sound, picks up the phone to her record company. A dozen calls, and twenty minutes later a seven piece brazilian band is being flown over. if mr cylob (as an example) wants a string sound, he has to NICK IT! very punk, very right on, very underground. but, lets move on... [Disclaimer] This is my personal experience, that of mr massey, mr hooper, mr bell, mssrs handley and turner, may well be different. [end] Band 'X' - the flavour of the month, has a good groove that she gets to hear. She raves about Band 'X' to the music press. Band 'X' are very flattered. Band 'X' get invited to her studio, probably full of bigtime dreams about working with her. Their manager tells them that they will sell a lot of extra records as a result of it. The silken web is woven. They then enter into a pact with the devil, basically. The sounds are siphoned out of their synths, and downloaded into mr hooper's [or whoever's] (s)hit machines. They may get asked to hang around while mr hooper [or his team of experienced engineers] sugars their original muse beyond all recognition. Six months of this sausage factory, then you pop out the other side, out of favour, like (poor old) plaid, goldie, and tricky. haha, worth it, was it boys? I would like to see an album written 100% by Bjork. It's not too much to ask. I believe she is capable of it. *then* and only then, would i give her creds. Not that she'd "give a fuck" what we thought about her, anyway. Gon> Hmmm. What kind of risks are you taking Gon> when you already have a zillion dollars? Druk> you'd be quite surprised. major labels are not known for their Druk> willingness to indulge in new and different styles of music. i think Druk> it is to bjork's credit that she can release uncompromising music and Druk> still sell lots of copies. One little indian would probably put out a record of bjork farting, if they thought people would buy it. When major labels have a 'star' of her quality, what she says, GOES. There is a huge amount of pluggers, tweakers, and general dogsbodies that work at selling *EVERYTHING* she puts out, propelling it up into the charts. it's big business, mate. People (Djs, radio stations) buy the records, no matter what's on them, because "she's a star, isn't she". One little indian see this, and think..."aha, we're on to a winner here....do it again", and the whole sorry fucking cycle continues. Ad Nauseum. Druk>so you think bjork hires people like plaid and mark bell Druk>because of their proven hitmaking ability? just what exactly Druk> are you trying to say anyway? She wanted to work with black dog, mr massey, and mark bell, because we have *credibility* something which she skates on precariously. like people have said, plaid ain't on it.
