Just received a couple of older CD's from +8's recent summer mail -order
sale. C$35 for two full lengths that I haven't been able to track down
in the 3 or so years that I've been buying IDM:
Speedy J - Ginger
Some what minimal in places but with excellent whooshing and fills a la
G SPot. A good full cd that shows its youth and sets off Jochem's later
work so nicely. I have not heard a track from this album previously
save for Pepper from the LIVE album of 18 months ago. As I said to my
sister at supper, "Isn't this happy music?"
FUSE - Dimension Intrusion
Wow. Having heard Richie Hawtin via Musik, Sheet One, his DJ MIXMAG
disc, and then a DJ spot in Winnipeg last year I'm amazed at this work.
Usually an artists earlier works aren't as well arranged or produced but
this is amazingly full and lush! It reminds me of Artificial
Intelligence II in spots but with slightly higher BPMs. The raw,
minimal beats that build too slowly aren;t here. Oceasns of sound are
splashed on the listener, with amazing melody and varied beats. Even
the concept tunes like Train-Trac are stunning. For those that may not
have been "into the music" in 1993 when this was released, pick it up.
Its wonderful and you could probably find it in a used bin somewhere
cause I'm sure some dumb ass, desperate for money to buy "new" music,
pawned one off cause it's four years old.
Wow. Must have had a stellar day at work.
