and about 1/100th as interesting. i love samplecell but honestly it
doesn't do much. very minimal in terms of filtering, modulation,
etc. great for undecorated drum loops and drum samples. it's main
benefit is that it's fast as hell.

i have 5 gig of HD space on my computer and 1/2 gig on my sampler.
another 2 gig for the computer would be keen but i'm running out of
scsi IDs.

samplecell is way different from yr average PC sound card. for one
thing, it's designed to be a sampler (as the name implies). a PC
sound card is more like audiomedia (only not as good on average).

i totally agree there.

the mac is no longer the only choice for audio, hate to say it
(especially as a devout mac user of many many years). i'm not selling
mine any time soon but if i were getting into the business today i
would seriously consider getting a PC. most of the good software runs
on both. when i was starting in the music biz there was definitely no
choice, mac or nothing. i honestly think it's different today. (same
thing happened with graphic design.)

extremely helpful tho. all those cool toys like metasynth and
sonicworx are already too slow for my tastes and i have a 100mhz power
pc 601. i wish i had a 180mhz 604! and i've finally settled down
with 48M of RAM. it's enough to keep two or three sound tools open at
once without problems.

this is sorta true. protools definitely. samplecell rarely.
