So under your definition, the following things should never be discussed on this list? 1) Aphex Twin - Select Ambient Works 1 + 2 2) Wagon Christ - Phat Lab Nightmare 3) Sun Electric - Kitchen, anything 4) Brian Eno - On Land, Music for Films, Music for Airports 5) Slag Van Loom 6) Jake Mandell - Healing 7) Fennesz - Plays, Hotel Parallel 8) Seefeel - Quique, Succour, Ch-vox 9) Farmers Manual 10) Mixmaster Morris/Irresistable Force Ambient may be ambient. But ambient is also a subset of what can be called IDM. Most artists that we dub as "IDM" (a term I try to use loosely if at all - seems like a necessary evil on this list) also veer into the ambient direction, not to mention hip-hop, drum'n'bass, trance, musique concrete, dub, etc. Unless you establish a Crossover Gestapo, you're going to be hard pressed to avoid the discussion of people like O'Rourke who works with and is befriended with artists like Fennesz, Hecker, Pita, Autechre, and Mouse on Mars, who I guess are deemed "IDM."
