Ahhh, this is the sort of music now in heavy rotation on Jason Bentley's once interesting metropolis radio show here in LA on KCRW. In a word: boring. Sorry Lamb fans (hey brock, don't you like the sneaker pimps?). Basically all the acts you mentioned here are perpetuating some variation of the trademark Bristol trip-hop sound that originated in the late eighties/early ninties from the work of the Wild Bunch dj crew which spun off into such acts as Massive Attack, Portishead and of course Tricky's solo stuff (there is actually a book about the bristol trip-hop music scene, can you believe it?). I mean the massives and tricky are pretty fluffy to begin with but moorcheeba and the sneaker pimps take it to a whole nother level. I say enjoy your copy of blue lines and save for a remix or two (autechre & fillas Lamb mixes) forget about these watered down 2nd wave trip-popers. If you're set on hearing new stuff in the same vein you may want to check out some of the releases on Cup of Tea records. There is a compilation available domesitcally on Quango (back to Jason Bentley again!). Oh, btw, Jason Bentley is leaving quango to take an A&R post at Maverick so they can find themselves another Prodigy. I love LA.
