the "perfect drug" remixes CD single is out in the US now with remixes by... MEAT BEAT MANIFESTO - jack does his first full strength jungle track. some of the stuff on Subliminal Sandwich was close, but this goes straight for the massive fucked up break and bowel loosening bass themes. the sounds are from the amen break, but twisted in a whole new way. jack is up to his usual high standard of audio trickery. satellite bleeps and rasta voices poking around the edges. snips of trent vocal floating in like otherwordly radio transmissions. squeaky turntable noises. this mixes smoothly into... PLUG - wow, a really excellent luke vibert mix here. lots of squelchy squidgy distorto jungle action with a really cool melody/chord progression built around that plinky piano theme from the end of the original version. a really cool bit of pitch mangled vocals leads into a seriously distorted drum 'n' synth sequence. he then brings in the melody from the end of the original and builds some really haunting sections around it. this is just amazing, one of the best vibert remixes ever i think. NINE INCH NAILS - yes, this is the version trent did with my ex-music-co-conspirator keith, and it is slamming. builds from minimal distorto drums to jungle to pounding wall of... uh.. stuff, with this excellent metallic bass sound underneath. SPACETIME CONTINUUM - starts off nice with tinkly clean synths before turning into a sorta clanky detroity thing. kinda boring and doesn't really go anywhere. if you're a jonah fan you'll love it i'm sure. THE ORB - for once an orb remix that actually bears some kind of resemblance to the original work! fragments of vocals spin in and out through the usual orb vocal mangling effects. the beat lurches along kinda like a demented techno version of tom waits. -- Jon Drukman jsd@gamespot.com SpotMedia Communications ...I was an infinitely hot and dense dot...
