regarding shadow's tour: i caught him and latyrx with jeru and de la soul in sf a couple of weeks ago. enjoyed it thoroughly. why? because i did not expect a mowaxish night of "headz" music, nor drumnbass madness, nor any other idm mainstay. i expected a solid hiphop show, and that's exactly what i got. shadow is touring with his solesides labelmates (not his "new" label, *his* label--the guys he's been down with in davis, ca since he first put needle to groove. mowax is the "new" label). they make hiphop music for a hiphop audience. they do it well, as do jeru and de la. i wouldn't expect the average idm lister to dig it, any more than i would expect them to dig a john zorn show or a buckethead show or an afi show... i posted a while ago about shadow's tour, warning that those not of a hiphop persuasion might be disappointed with the show. looks like i was right. anyway, any disappointment you experienced is, imo, a result of your own misunderstanding of the show you attended--not of any shortcomings of these artists or lack of "respect" for the audience by mowax (who weren't even involved as far as i kno) or anyone else. r|b|s
