I disagree. Just cuz each measure is super-short doesn't mean the melody
has to be 1 measure long. I think AFX and Squarepusher even qualify as
"d&b with long melodies". TJ's basslines and AFX's silly melodies are
all quite long in comparison to traditional d&b melodic loops. We fits
this bill too.
But you're right about one thing: MOST d&b practicioners don't
understand that a melody doesn't have to be 1 measure long. Most of them
don't even get the idea that a "proper" d&b track shouldn't even have
"loops". They just find a single fast breakbeat and loop it. Duh! That's
just old-fashioned techno.
