Check out o}Lee Perry/Mad Professor collaboration "Experryments at the grassroots of o}Dub" to bridge the gap. speaking of which, i saw lee perry live last weekend, backed by the robotiks, with mad professor on the mixing board. i went to the show a bit skeptically, given that 1) perry is 61 years old, and i haven't really dug his recent albums, and 2) dub seems to be such a studio creation that i doubted its impact live. within moments of perry appearing on stage, my doubts disintegrated. he is an extremely charismatic performer (the only comparison i can think of is dylan when he's on) as well as exceedingly strange--i found my self believing that he actually is a space alien as he claims, if not then he is the spryest old man ever, dude did a 3 hour show and jumped around all night. dub is also *incredible* live--watching the drummer solo and gradually hearing his solo mutate until it seems unrelated to his movements is wonderfully disorienting... plus i was sitting right behind mad p. and so got a lesson in knob-twiddling magick. quite an experience... r|b|s
