span out at the death ambient gig last night, heres a short
review (for what it is worth) and some of the stuff i spun
before and after the band
btw - jim plotkin showed me all these crazy records he bought
in germany - including first 3 cluster albums , 1st mute 7" and
loads of early 1980's german new wave, he also had stuff from
source (both general magic and pita lp's) and is working on an
album project for mego - so that should be one to watch for

trio of jim plotkin (guitar) , ikue mori (electronic percussion)
and kato hideki (bass)
the trio dispense with the sounds traditionally associated with their
instruments and conjure up both violent and serene soundscapes, plotkin
sits with the guitar on his lap and an fx rack in front of him creating
floating drone backdrops or dropping crystalline chord shapes, hideki
created a free form noise scape abusing his bass by physically striking
the body, dragging a chain across the strings and running a bow up and
down the frets whilst feeding the whole thing through an fx vacuum,
a couple of times the music broke suddenly into a tranquial almost
oriental feel with mori keying gentle lilting melodies with lo-fi
eastern rhythms, 50 minutes later with an apocalyptic rush of feedback
and distortion it was over
the london show (thursday) is being recorded for mixing it (radio 3),
