About half of the DSN meets HIA collaboration is unbelievably amazing,
leaving me in one of those mindless head-nodding techno stupors we all know
and love. the remaining half is not bad, but the lack of any central
melodic themes does become somewhat conscious. It's still a fantastic
album though.... tracks like "psyphonic" and "ramp one" are ripping
Detroitish wonders....
Sadly, Nettwerk Records, has put out a pretty duff compilation. They've
totally latched onto this new major label techno craze, and their "Plastic
Volume 1" comp. pulls together standards by Underworld and the Chemical
Brothers. At least there's some nice chewable trance remixes of Garbage and
Sarah McLachlan (care of Rabbit in the Moon) that makes the disc half
decent. Poo poo to a label once notorious for signing innovative acts
(Skinny Puppy, MC 900FT Jesus, Consolidated, etc.) but maybe they'll make
it up to us and to a nice CanContent album of fresh electronica.
